If you roll at this level, you likely don’t need the Quicksilver triggers how-to that prefaces the piece, but it’s concise for its part. Personally I like FastScripts.

Andy Kim created The Hit List. I imagine he's very handsome.

A two month old interview on MacApper with Andy Kim, solo developer of The Hit List:

I wanted the user interface in The Hit list to be seamless and efficient enough so that it feels like an extension of your mind. An example of software that has this amazingly invisible UI are video games. With video games, you don’t think about pressing buttons to get something done, most of the times, you just do it. I wanted more of that kind of interaction in my application.

It’s a safe bet for MacMembrane readers to expect a steady stream of The Hit List related posts in the near future. I love this application.

Gus Mueller, developer of VoodooPad and Acorn, has released a beta preview of a new Mac scripting tool based on JavaScript called JSTalk. Someone should appreciate the effort.

Gus Mueller, developer of VoodooPad and Acorn, has released a beta preview of a new Mac scripting tool based on JavaScript called JSTalk.

I think of AppleScript in the same way as the original Macintosh Toolbox and Carbon after it. AppleScript was good in its day, but the time has come for something new…I want a language with momentum and resources behind it. I want something easy to setup and debug, where I can peek under the covers when things goes wrong.

There are many who deride AppleScript as an unconventional, idiomatic language different enough from English as to be entirely frustrating to work with. As a non-programmer, however, AppleScript was the easiest route for me to start automating things on my Mac, and I’ve had some moderate successes with it. But Mueller’s project looks interesting and as he says, it may be time for something new.
