Tim Cook Teases New Apple Product Announcement This Week: 'There's Something in the Air'

Apple CEO Tim Cook today teased a new product announcement coming "this week."

cook tweet air upscale
"There's something in the air," the teaser says.

This teaser likely refers to a new MacBook Air with the M4 chip, which is already expected to be announced as early as this week.

Apple used the same "there's something in the air" slogan before it announced the original MacBook Air in 2008.

Cook shared a similar teaser last month, ahead of the iPhone 16e announcement. As was the case with the iPhone 16e, the new MacBook Air or any other new product should be announced in a press release on the Apple Newsroom website, and there could be an accompanying YouTube video announcement.

Beyond the M4 chip, the new 13-inch and 15-inch MacBook Air models are expected to have Thunderbolt 4 ports, a Center Stage camera, longer battery life, and a few other upgrades.

What are some other wild-card "air" possibilities?

A new iPad Air is also expected to launch at some point fairly soon, and a new AirTag is also expected by mid-2025. There is also a rumored "iPhone 17 Air" with an ultra-thin design, but that device is not expected to be unveiled until September.

Personally I think he should scrap their X accounts completely. Just put them on the Apple website.

At last, that HomeKit connected air freshener we've all been dreaming of!

Seriously, though, my actual dream here would be for the Air to become an ultraportable akin to the little ill-fated Retina MacBook, but with a proper keyboard and an M-series processor. The current Air would become just the "MacBook", and the MacBook Pro would just carry on as it is. I think this is all quite unlikely and we'll probably just get the M4 Air everyone is expecting.

The ONE thing that gives me pause is the reusing of the same 2008 tagline, and the fact that the graphic really strongly points to thinness. If they do intro an ultrathin MBA this week, my poor old credit card will be taking a hit very soon...
