Apple Shares Latest iOS 16 Usage Statistics for iPhone Ahead of WWDC

Apple today published its latest iOS 16 and iPadOS 16 adoption statistics, as measured by devices that transacted on the App Store on May 30. The numbers come just days ahead of WWDC, where Apple is expected to announce iOS 17.

General iOS 16 Feature Yellow
Most importantly, Apple says 81% of all active iPhones are now running iOS 16, up from 72% in February. 13% of active iPhones are still running iOS 15, and 6% are running an even older iOS version, according to the data. iOS 16 was released to the public in September and is compatible with the iPhone 8 and newer.

Apple adds that 71% of all active iPads are now running iPadOS 16, up from 50% in February.

iOS 16 Adoption June 2023
Around the same time last year, Apple revealed that 82% of all active iPhones were running iOS 15, so the usage statistics are very similar on a year-over-year basis. iOS 16 adoption will start to decline next week after Apple makes the first beta of iOS 17 available to members of its $99-per-year Developer Program for testing.

here are the Andriod Usage Statistics for April 2023. ("T" is the latest version, Andriod 13.)

Again proves why Apple is best at Software updates. very surprising that iOS 16 had more users than iOS 15 because 16 ended support for 6s, SE, 7, and Touch 7.

Ooof It pains me to look at this

Although, this is total usage (not just those who updated from S)

And apple only offers premium phones at a premium phone, whilst android has cheap options , which obviously don't get many OS updates . Fair enough for a phone you paid 3* less i suppose

Besides, core apps still get updated on older android versions, which isn't the case with iOS , where messages, plans, notes, safari even ! Are tied to the OS
So people may not feel the need to update ? Just a guess

Wanted to add something else but i forgot , jeez my memory sucks

Im still on 14.8 and the sky hasn’t fallen.
Edit: Funny that Apple will tell you how many people are on 16 but won’t specifically say how many iphones they sold last quarter.
That's a very good and valid point. I'm still not sure why Apple decided to do that.
