Monitor a Currency’s Performance From Dashboard

GoogleIcon.pngThe easiest way to monitor an exchange rate, I think, is with Google. There are many little features hidden away in Google search, and one of them is up to date currency information provided by Citibank of North America. Just type in your currency and your target currency and you’ll have a pretty accurate exchange rate. For instance, if you were planning a trip to the States, you might want to catch a good time to buy some USD. Just type “100 Canadian dollars in American dollars” or (100 CAD in USD) to view the current exchange rate. Fast and convenient.

But if you’re like me and, for whatever, check often, here’s a little trick to place Google’s result for your currencies on your dashboard.

open-in-dashboard.pngFirst, type in your desired conversion (for me, it’s 1,000,000 KRW in CAD) to bring up the results. Next, look under Safari’s File menu and select Open in Dashboard. A handled box pops up which you can drag around your intended Dashboard widget. When you’ve made your selection, click the Add button in the top right of the browser and your new widget will open up in Dashboard.

Widgets created this was are automatically updated from their URL. In this way, you’ll be able to get to the current exchange rate with the click of a button – that is, whatever key you have Dashboard mapped to.

Are you as stressed out about cash flow as I am? Work in a foreign country? How do you stay on top of the latest rates?
