Hardware test gives you the lowdown on the physical state of your Mac. On the newest models – MacBook Air, MacBook Pro and MacBook – holding down D during boot up will enter your machine into Hardware Test without needing a disk. Good to know.
Some brand new MacBooks and Macbook Pros are experiencing some strange graphics. Unfortunately, mine is among the afflicted. Fingers crossed for a new machine. (See also the Ars Technica article about the problem.)
